Settling in procedure

# New Starter Settling-In Procedure
*Purpose*
To ensure a smooth and comfortable transition for new children and their families into our childminding setting.

*Pre-Settling-in*
1. *Initial Contact*: Arrange an initial meeting with the child's parents/carers to discuss their child's needs, routines, and any concerns.
2. *Registration and Administrative Tasks*: Complete all necessary registration and administrative tasks, including obtaining relevant consent forms and medical information.

*Settling-in Sessions*
1. *Session 1: Introduction and Familiarization* (30 minutes to 1 hour)
   - Meet the child and parent/carer at the setting.
   - Provide a brief tour of the setting and introduce the child to any other children present.
   - Engage in a short activity with the child to help them feel comfortable.
2. *Session 2: Building Trust and Confidence* (1-2 hours)
   - Encourage the child to participate in activities and explore the setting.
   - Gradually increase the amount of time the child spends away from their parent/carer.
   - Begin to establish routines and boundaries.
3. *Session 3: Extended Stay* (2-3 hours)
   - Increase the duration of the child's stay.
   - Continue to build trust and confidence.
   - Encourage the child to engage in activities and interact with other children.
4. *Session 4: Full Day* (full Contracted session)
   - The child attends the setting for a full day.
   - Continue to monitor the child's settling-in process and make adjustments as needed.

*Ongoing Support*
1. *Regular Communication*: Maintain regular communication with parents/carers to discuss their child's progress, address any concerns, and provide feedback.
2. *Flexible Approach*: Be prepared to adjust the settling-in process as needed to accommodate individual children's needs and circumstances.

*Review and Evaluation*
1. *Settling-in Review*: Conduct a review of the settling-in process with the child's parents/carers after the fourth session.
2. *Ongoing Evaluation*: Continuously evaluate and refine the settling-in procedure to ensure it meets the needs of all children and families.
